Publisher's Synopsis

The aim of this symposium was to investigate the health of "hibakusha" (atomic radiation victims) worldwide and to discuss what has to be done in the future. Speakers were invited from Hiroshima and Nagasaki (sites of atomic bombings), the Russian federation and the Republic of Byelorus and Ukraine (sites of radioactive waste disposal into the Techa river at Chelyabinsk and the Chernobyl nuclear power station accident, respectively), and the Marschall Islands, the USA, and the republic of Kazakstan (countries in which the Bravo, Nevada, and Semiparatinsk nuclear weapons test sites, respectively, are situated).;It became apparent during the symposium that there are many "hibakusha" worldwide. Many new results relating to the health consequences of the above disasters and tests were presented: these and the proceedings of the round table discussions are included in this volume.
