Then, though feeling the want of power in my pen, I at last summoned resolution to give the lie to slander, and to bear witness to the trut Therefore it is I dedicate this Poem to my fellow-men, not forget ting my worthy friend. A memento, with remarks, is appended to the Dedication, which may serve to point a moral, if not adorn a tale.
