Publisher's Synopsis
Music can release emotions and create community, which is why it has been used in the service of a wide variety of identity constructions in the course of music history. This is particularly true in times of social upheaval and political crisis. This volume sheds light on four so far little researched sections of Austrian music history: the decade of 1430/40 as a turning point, change and continuity in the period around 1740, musical manifestations of the revolution of 1848/49, as well as identity and representation in post-war music. The volume is rounded off by a methodological foundation as well as an essay on "MusikBildIdentitäten" between the Basel Council and Wiener Gemeindebau
