Publisher's Synopsis
The fortieth-anniversary volume of Muqarnas begins with a preface by Gülru Necipoglu, addressing the historical trajectory of this groundbreaking publication and its sister series, Muqarnas Supplements, against the backdrop of a changing scholarly landscape, particularly in the last decade. This is followed by twelve articles representative of the scope of scholarship published in Muqarnas over the years—from the reception of Chinese ceramics in early modern South Asia, and an analysis of Humayun's tomb-garden in Mughal Delhi, to studies of the Samanid mausoleum in Bukhara, a lavish Abu'l-Khairid Shahnama, the Mevlevi¨hane of Salonica, the House of Paintings in the Alhambra, and the reordering of Galata and Pera's urban space in nineteenth-century Istanbul. The volume concludes with a remembrance of Ronald Lewcock, the first Aga Khan Professor of Design for Islamic Societies at MIT, and a cumulative index of Muqarnas articles from 1983 through 2023. Authors include Gülru Necipoglu, Dilrabo Tosheva, Ariel Fein, Walid Akef, Denise-Marie Teece, James L. Wescoat Jr., Gulfishan Khan, Jaimee K. Comstock-Skipp, Zeren Tanindi, Cemal Kafadar, K.
