Publisher's Synopsis
This work uncovers the role played by mills in the countryside of Bordelais in the Middle Ages and under the Ancien Regime. It offers a new approach to the dynamics of the occupation of hydrographic space and the consequences of the industrialisation of rivers on land economy. This book is based on a thesis which won the Fondation du patrimoine prize in 2011, awarded by the Bordeaux academy of sciences, letters, and arts.
