The illustrations in this book are from photographs of pupils of a pub lic school, that had received no special training in expression.
While some of the poses are open to criticism from a high, artistic standpoint, it was deemed best to insert them instead of sketches with each song, as a better illustration of what can be done in the public schools, in gesture and expression of the face.
