Tariq Difalcoin is privileged over others in Tackvalchia and still is willing to give it up for becoming a lowly scribe. Then when things go wrong, an enemy is made who overtakes the kingdom and searches for him and the people he calls friends. The only way to save him is through outlawed magic, which he is only able to accomplish through an enchanted quill.
