A group of internationally renowned experts in the field of cardiology and pharmacology discuss the latest state-of-art in nitrate therapy. Particular emphasis is put on isosorbide-5-mononitrate (IS-5-MN). The pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of such therapy are described as well as its methods of action, including such aspects as denitration, increase in cyclic guanosine-monophosphate, and the endothelium derived relaxant factor.
