Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Moliere in Outline: Being a Translation of All Important Parts of Moliere's Works, With Introductions and Notes, Historical and Critical, Abridged From Van Laun and Others, to Which Are Added the Arguments of the Plays, Etc
Such a nersonage - as I read his works - we may discover in Moliere. His plays were addressed to an age and a people who would not have understood his language had it not been sea soned with expressions we now condemn. For this reason perhaps he has not been read or studied by those who were not willing to encounter offense. But it has occured to me that if the pure gold could be sifted, and the grains thus secured be offered - ih a shape, no father need hesitate to present to a daughter - the labor might be re-paid by the pleasure secured to a class not hitherto reached. This has been my cardinal object in preparing this work. I have had another purpose in view.
