Publisher's Synopsis

Raymond Federman was one of contemporary literature's most radical thinkers, critics, and influential authors. He survived the Holocaust and wrote both in English and French. This book offers readers a critifictional perambulation of the predominant themes and narrative strategies in Federman's oeuvre, such as absence, autobiography, graphic devices, the Holocaust, interpretation, paradox, pla(y)giarism, postmodernism, realism, surfiction, or survival. It also includes the most comprehensive bibliography to date of both Federman's works and secondary sources.

Thomas Hartl is a literary scholar by training and has taught at Salzburg University, Austria. He is the author of Raymond Federman's Real Fictitious Discourses (1995) and co-edited Federman: From A to X-X-X-X (1998) with Larry McCaffery and Doug Rice. He translated Federman's French novel La fourrure de ma tante Rachel into German.

"Hartl not only steals my shit, but eats it!" -- Raymond Federman
