Le Traité que je livre aujourd'hui à la publicité n'est que la reproduction amplifiée du cours que j'ai pro fessé à la Faculté des sciences de Besançon dans le courant de l'année 1854. Je n'ai certainement point la prétention de le donner comme parfait; mais le se cours qu'en ont retiré mes auditeurs me laisse espérer que la manière dont j'ai envisagé l'étude des Roches dissipera en grande partie l'obscurité dans laquelle cette étude est réstée plongée jusqu'ici.
