Publisher's Synopsis
Awodi became a lender very early. As soon as he started to make gains on market days, he began supporting other traders for a fraction of their profits. The troubles families got into for accepting Awodi's offer of help started early too. In those early days, Awodi took first born sons of his debtors to his farm to work as payback. Opinions were divergent about this. Some people said it was good; others expressed concerns that Awodi was too young for this kind of arrangement. Among the naysayers were those who accompanied their sons to work on Awodi's farm. They saw trouble brewing but did not do enough to forestall it for fear of been targeted.
