Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Miscellaneous Poems
Should I express my own feelings towards you, I should be accused of the meanest flattery by those who are unacquainted with your character; but I must confess, I was induced to solicit your permission to dedicate my humble work to you, by the high esteem in which you are held by all parties who have observed the gentlemanly and christian manner in which you have performed your public and private duties. Also, for the interest you have taken in the welfare of my afflicted brethren, who are deprived of the most precious of all physical faculties, as well as for your great kindness to myself as an individual. I can say nothing of the merits of the work there may be imperfections in it which, perhaps, might have been corrected had I been able to peruse it myself. I feel myself laid under an unspeakable obligation to you for permitting me to dedicate this work to you.
