Publisher's Synopsis
At the confluence of Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, Judaism, and Islam, seventeenth-century Ukrainian culture was marked by intense religious debate and a variety of religious experiences. The works included in this volume constitute one articulation of these experiences: the representation of miracles against the background of Orthodox Christian monastic life.
Written by some of the leading intellectuals of the time, the reports and reflections on these mysteries of faith are conditioned by the radical religious and political changes taking place in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
