The Citico Creek Wilderness Study Area comprises portions of two tracts of land purchased by the Forest Service under the authority of the Weeks Act of 1911. Surface and mineral rights were purchased from Babcock Lumber and Land Company and the Tellico River Lum ber Company. The 17 7-acre 2-km') Falls Branch Scenic Area near the south-central boundary is the only easement within the study area. The southern boundary of the area will be slightly modified to accommodate a new scenic highway, u.s.forest Service Road 217 - I.
