Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Michigan Historical Collections, Vol. 40: Documents Relating to Detroit and Vicinity, 1805-1813
Excepting Hull's Defence the entire text is from photo stat copies in the Burton Historical Collection of the De troit Public Library, which were made from documents in the War Department; the Defence is direct from the original manuscript at Washington. The aim has been to reproduce the documents accurately, retaining the peculiarities of spelling, punctuation and capitalization except where these would be confusing. The volume of course is not one to be read casually, but for reference. Persons using the documents for serious purpose will be familiar, presumably, with the people, places, and general setting. Obviously the region covered is Mich igan, Ohio, and Indiana; and the historical collections published by these states, among the materials valuable for elucidation of the documents, are easily accessible; as also are the general studies and special monographs upon the history of these states.
The Introduction to the volume, covering the life and service of Hull, was written originally for the Year Book, Michigan Society Sons of the American Revolution, 1919-1923, and is here printed substantially as it there appeared.
