According to the most reliable account two Rufi'ner brothers, Simon and another, came from the Austrian Tyrol, near the middle of the last century, but at what precise date is not known, and settled in Maryland, not far from Balti more. In time one of them moved west in Maryland or passed into Virginia, and nothing further is known of him, except that persons of the name, believed to be his descend ants, are now found in the valley of the Shenandoah river.
