Of the Map accompanying the work, it should be said that readers may be assured of its general correctness. In regard to those portions of it which relate to the Californias, the author avers it to be the only one in existence which presents any thing like a full and accurate idea of the geography of those countries. The author's own explorations, together with those of the U. S. Exploring Expedition under Captains Wilkes and Fremont, are used in its construction.
On the whole, it is hoped that this little book will meet the desire of the public for information relative to the wide-spread and important regions of which it treats.
