Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Metric Coinage: Report; February 12, 1880
After this discovery of the practical embodiments of the metric weight, without disturbing the value, and greatly increasing the superiority of this ternary alloy metal for coin, the solution of the proportions for metric gold coin was discovered, and resulted in the production of the metric double-eagle. The application of the same principles developed the fact that a metric silver dollar could be made of standard value, also presenting metallurgical superiority, as well as more convenient size than the grain dollar.
