In preparing specimens for microscopic study the author has used water mounts un der a cover slide, or when using ahigh power under thin sheets of mica. Sectioning leaves and other parts of the plants has been done with a sharp knife or scalpel. The specimen is cut Wet while held by the nail of the fore finger. The numbers which follow the names of objects in the explanations of plates indi cate the number of diameters that the object is magnified, but this must be considered as approximate only.
