Publisher's Synopsis

The purpose of the workshop, organised in collaboration with tuna agencies and programmes, was to develop quantitative methods to determine the desired magnitude of or desired change to fishing capacity on the basis of the status of stocks. The outcome of the workshop will be relevant for the work of these organisations and their member countries, rendering technical assistance to fisheries managers in undertaking decisions on the management of tuna fishing capacity. This document includes the report and papers presented at the workshop. It also contains a statement prepared by the participants and presented at the Meeting of Tuna Regional Fisheries Management organisations held in Kobe, Japan, in January 2007.
