Publisher's Synopsis
Icarus - Icky to his friends - is flying away from Crete when his wings fail and he plunges into the Middle Sea. His father, Master Daedalus, cannot help and flies on ahead. But a ship carrying Icky's friends - Freckles, a spotted hyena, Tuft, a lion cub, and Tree, a baby hippo - arrives. Captain Messi and First Mate Lazee fish Icky from the sea.
Messi demands payment for the transport of Icky and the animals to Egypt. They take oaths to help him seek a cure for his dying father. Joined by Master Daedalus, who finds his son in Egypt, they go on a quest to gather the ingredients to work the spell in The Book of the Living, a scroll granting eternal life. The scroll can only be used, however, if someone can give Thoth - the Egyptian god of knowledge - a piece of knowledge he does not have. Will they be able to pay the price? And will they choose to pay it, after they learn the cost?
Messing with the Myths: The Book of the Living is the second in a series of stories having fun with different mythologies. The first is Messing with the Myths: The Maxotaur. More are in the works!
