Publisher's Synopsis
Merkvah Ascending is a science fiction novel in the Christian tradition. It is a violent, apocalyptic, end of the world story. It is also a "gospel" story centering on spiritual conflicts within the lead character. Most action in the story occurs on an asteroid mine 500 years in the future. Action in the story involves the interaction of two religious traditions found in the modern world and a problematic religious tradition rooted in ancient Canaan 3,000 years ago. The story is intended for Christian warriors who are willing to defend their faith in a violent world. Merkvah Ascending is a "hard science fiction" novel attempting to live comfortably in the world of contemporary science. The story in Merkvah Ascending ends with a section of notes on the content of the story. The notes discuss plot elements like the affects of trauma and the results of exposure to the death pressure vacuum in space. The notes also explore of: the nature of asteroids, climate change, nuclear drives either researched or built, nuclear reactors designed for use in space, and similar topics. The novel involves reactor accidents. So the notes list over a hundred nuclear accidents that have occurred world wide since 1940. This list is intended to provide a context, not to create an argument against the use of nuclear power (which the author supports).
