The book shares the author's experiences as a Marine helicopter pilot before, during, and after the Vietnam War. His experiences in flight school at the Naval Air Basic Training Command in Pensacola, Florida are included with his first landings on the aircraft carrier, USS Wasp. Experiences of thirteen months in Vietnam with the deaths of squadron mates of the Ugly Angel Squadron, HMM-362 are shared. Descriptions of various mission types including one where six of his fellow pilots medevaced 58 wounded and delivered them to a medical facility. The emotions experienced on his first night back in the States as he slept alone in the terminal of the SF airport are shared. Finally, the mixed bag of emotions that he experienced while viewing the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. are shared.
