Publisher's Synopsis

Bill Mutton was born in Dalton, England in 1927. His early childhood was a simple one, filled with happy memories. Later, the depression and World War II brought with it periods of drama, sacrifice and tragedy. As a young man, Bill made the decision to emigrate to Australia where he joined the Royal Australian Navy. When he was de-commissioned, his career as a Steam Engine Driver took him to many parts of Australia, from the Woomera Rocket Range in South Australia to where he finally settled in Biloela, Queensland where he worked at the Callide Power Station. From the 1960's until the late 1980's he was heavily involved with the Queensland Labor Party and the Union movement and is still very passionate about politics today. It is a snapshot of both life in England up until 1950 and Australia's recent political and social history. He is a man of candour and old-fashioned values and this story encapsulates his life, thoughts and experiences over 80 years.
