JASPER (JAY) BYRON HOWARD
The oldest son of Durham Winton Howard and Katherine Morgan Howard, Jasper B. Howard was born in Williamsburg, Kentucky, on June 29, 1933 and was raised on a mountain farm near the mouth of Mill Creek, Bell County, Kentucky. Jay was the nickname his mother gave him early in life. His education included attending school at Mill Creek, Pineville City, Tennessee Military Institute, St Joseph Prep School and Lincoln Memorial University. Jay was a wholesale grocery salesman, owned and operated Howard Insurance Agency and continues to work in the insurance business. He operated Magnum Mining Corp., was a farmer and beef cattle producer for 40 years, and operated an automobile dealership. He was elected to the Middlesboro City council for two terms. Jay was an excellent athlete, avid hunter and fisherman and still loves the outdoors and the mountains of eastern Kentucky and Tennessee. He has three children, fi ve grandchildren and two great granddaughters and currently lives with his wife Sherrie Campbell Howard in Harrogate, Tennessee.
