Mrs. Schimmelpenninck proposes a whole suite of rooms to be appropriated to me in her house; the other ladies are not less kind; but till Providence makes it a more imperative duty, I cannot consent to go. I am happy where I am, and want no good thing. We have in one of our churches here a Mr. Marshall, son-in-law of Rev. Legh Richmond. He is a very good man, and a popular preacher. He was formerly of the Scottish Church, and wrote the memoir of Miss Isabella Graham. And very lately our parish church of St. Paul's has got a very nice curate (Rev. R. Simpson), a clergyman whose living in a distant county was in an unhealthy situation. I heard a good sermon from him last Sunday. He is the most cheerful Christian you ever saw. He spends every Thursday evening at my friends' at Clifton. As soon as eight o'clock arrives, he calls for the Bible, summons the whole household together, and lectures and prays with the most beautiful simplicity. He says his rule is never or rarely to accept an invitation to dinner, but never or rarely to refuse one to tea, as dinners are too much of a worldly character, and he can always take his Bible to tea. How I wish you were near enough to this to be visited! Well, we shall soon be so situated that there will be no impediment to free intercourse. Contiguity is one of the delightful recommendations of the "many mansions" in our Father's house. Oh, my dear friend, how brief, yet eventful is human life!
