Only a few words seem to be needed in the way of preface to the following pages. When the idea of such a volume as this was first broached, it met with immediate favor and gratifying expres sions of confidence on the part of a number of our Oldest Bishops and Clergy. A like feeling of interest was also found to exist among brethren of the Laity. Under this stimulus, the writer was induced to set about the matter with zeal and cour age; and though at times much perplexed lest he might be doing an unwise, perhaps hurtful thing, he persevered to the end.
