It cannot be denied that in detailing the history of the different individuals in this col lection of the brotherhood, there are in the main points of great similarity. Though many of the acts of this class of persons are hid from the view of the stranger, yet there is enough in the differences of selfish display herein related to excite interest in the reader, and impart a lesson to those who feel a tendency to gratify avaricious desires.
One or two foreign examples more might have been added, but the main features are essentially the same as those which are here detailed, avarice being a disease common to all natures, but most so to those in which the necessity for its existence is least apparent.
