Joanna Burma, a lady who holds a distinguished place among the writers of the nineteenth century, is the daughter of a learned divine, and late professor of divinity in the university at Glasgow, and chie?y resides in her native country, Scotland. She has published a series of plays, in which she has attempted to delineate the strong passions of the mind. The first volume was published in 1798; the second in 1802; the third in 18032; since which she has published a volume of miscellaneous plays, and a tragedy, entitled the Family Legend. She has, also, just given to the public, a collection of Metrical Legends of eminent characters.
