This book is compiled to make more permanent and accessible some records of those whose memories are beloved by their children, and will be reverenced by their descendants. In December, 1883, it was suggested to E. Hooper by his son that 'it would be useful and interesting if you wrote your recollections.' He commenced at once, an entry in his diary, Tuesday, December 11, being: Began biography but the effort was dis tasteful, and increasing weakness hindered its progress when he had only brought it down to 1832.
