Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Memoir of the Life and Medical Opinions of John Armstrong, M.D, Vol. 2 of 2: Formerly Physician to the Fever Institution of London; Author of "Practical Illustration of Typhus and Scarlet Fever;" &C., &C.; To Which Is Added an Inquiry Into the Facts Connected With Those Forms of Fever Attributed to Malaria or Marsh Effluvium
I N this volume I have entered largely into the consideration of Plague, as it has ap peared in Egypt, Syria, Holland, France; and London, as, in an inquiry into those diseases which have been referred to malaria, it was impossible to omit the examination of one which, though known by a specific appella tion, has no characteristics to distinguish it from Marsh fever in the sense I have applied to it. I have shown by facts that Plague to all appearance obeys the laws which govern the other forms of Malignant fever, and that in Egypt and Syria it is often of a periodical type, which it does not wholly lose in the more northern latitudes to which I have traced it.
