Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Memoir of Robert F. Skillings: With Genealogy and Poems
Believing that justice would not otherwise be done, prompted by filial love and the thought that some thing should be written, however brief, to record the virtues and worth and to perpetuate the memory of one, who, although never rising above the humble walks of life, yet left the impress of his noble mind and generous, loving heart upon the lives of the peo ple among whom he lived; this work is undertaken with many misgivings as to the ability of the writer to do justice to the subject, partly due to lack of knowl edge and the meagre records of facts and incidents pertinent thereto. The poems and other verses composed by him, the story. Of whose life is here recorded, appear in an Appendix to the work and are published with the expectant hope that at least some of them may not only give pleasure for a passing moment, but be a lasting source of benefit and blessing to those who may read them.
