Publisher's Synopsis
Over the last 5 years Meinhard von Gerkan and his partners have written architectural history. It started with the design for Berlin-Tegel airport and since then over 38 projects have been realized. On the occasion of the exhibition "Aus freier Hand" (Freehand), a catalog is being published that provides an insight into Meinhard von Gerkan's sketches archive, based on 39 projects from the past 5 years. The publication shows how the professor of design-ranging from the experimental to the feasible-uses simple lines to convey the idea of expressiveness and the basic arrangement of complex buildings, or else of a piece of furniture or an entire town.
