This work introduces the fundamental concepts and principles of statics and stress analysis. The mathematics is at all times kept as straightforward as possible, with worked examples used to reinforce the understanding of key concepts. Although much emphasis is currently laid on designing structures using methods dependent on computers, it is still necessary for engineers to be able to interpret computer outputs. This text therefore applies the concepts and principles introduced to a large number of practical problems that do not require computers.;The text is intended for use by first- and second-year undergraduates on courses in mechanics of solids/stress analysis, in departments of mechanical, manufacturing and civil and aeonautic engineering.
