Publisher's Synopsis
This work presents current information on the mechanisms underlying the role of specific nutrients in prenatal development, the influence of nutrient deficiencies and toxicities on prenatal development in experimental models, and the influence of maternal nutritional status on pregnancy outcome in human populations. Recent data concerning the effects of folate supplementation on the occurrences of neural tube defects are discussed in detail as one example of how interactions among maternal genetics and environmental factors influence pregnancy outcome.
