While it will deal with the past in a brief measure, it has chie?y to do with the future, by directing in the present, the attention of skill and capital to our vast resources, and encouraging those powerful levers of industrial progression to utilize more thoroughly the facts which demonstrate the superiority of this section as a manufacturing and commercial centre. It is not claimed that this work is perfect - the di?iculties in obtaining essential information have made that much desired end an impossibility - yet the utmost care has been exercised in collecting and presenting the matter to make it not only acceptable to the general reader, but in the highest degree valuable to the manufacturer.
