Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Maryland Colonization Journal, Vol. 4: July, 1848
The new emigrants are doing very well, four families have been placed on their farms or lots, and hocuses are being erected for five more. The scarcity of lumber has retarded their completion. The scarcity of rice has been great during my absence, but they can have no cause to complain, as they have had full rations in rice, corn meal, bread and potatoes, besides having ?our bread baked for them every other day during their sickness. They are a very decent set of emigrants, and deserve great credit for their cleanliness.
