Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Mary Browne, Vol. 3 of 3
The Christmas festivities at length sub sided; but the children, who had gone to spend the latter portion of their holidays with some cousins or other relations, were still absent. For the last fortnight I had been much alone, even Without an occasional visit from Marion, for she too was away.
It was a bright, cold morning in January. I dressed myself for a walk, and going into the schoolroom from my bedroom ready equipped, I saw that Mr. Harrop was stand ing at the window looking out. He turned round upon hearing my step.
