Providing a description of some of the phenomena in material flow in manufacturing systems, the text Manufacturing Systems Engineering details some of the potentially disruptive events that affect the production process. Manufacturing technology is concerned with the flow of materials from the acquisition of raw materials, through conversion in the workshop to the shipping of finished goods to the customer. First chapter presents an approach to model the manufacturing system reliability dynamically based on their operation data of process quality and output data of product reliability. In second chapter, we deal with the formal modeling and verification of reconfigurable and energy-efficient manufacturing systems (REMSs) that are considered as reconfigurable discrete event control systems. Third chapter presents preliminary analysis, modeling and simulation strategies of a poly-bag manufacturing system. In fourth chapter, the effect of control variates (CVs) and Stratified Sampling (SS) techniques in reducing variance of the performance measurements of M/M/1 and GI/G/1 queue models has been investigated considering four probability distributions utilizing randomly generated parameters for arrival and service processes. An adaptive maintenance model oriented to process environment of the manufacturing systems has been presented in fifth chapter. Sixth chapter provides a basic definition of global outsourcing and analyzes global outsourcing as either an opportunity or a threat. Seventh chapter focuses on platform for intelligent manufacturing systems with elements of knowledge discovery. The goal of eighth chapter is to summarize the key research findings related to the design, development, and integration of a hybrid manufacturing process that utilizes laser metal deposition (LMD) to produce fully dense, finished metallic parts. Ninth chapter discusses on the challenges and opportunities of digital manufacturing supporting the decision making in autonomous and collaborative actions of manufacturing companies. Last chapter addresses the situation where a manufacturer needs to investigate a potential manufacturing system migration for the assembly of a part family of products, where no or minimal product design changes are allowed.
