This book presents the proceedings of the international seminar organised by the Centre for Cement and Concrete at the University of Sheffield to bring together information on the major issues concerning through-life management of major concrete structures. The two main themes pursued in the book are: design, construction, prediction, and inspection - the book examines current developments in national and international codes and standards, international research initiatives, design considerations for durable concrete, emerging predictive techniques and inspection and assessment of safety-critical concrete structures; and strategies for maintenance and serviceability - the book identifies the main considerations for developing a management scheme for assuring service life of concrete structures. This book presents the international perspective of ageing management in safety-critical nuclear structures, a strategy for replacement of concrete structures without disruption to production and case studies on the application of serviceability strategies.
