Publisher's Synopsis
This text examines the nature of teaching in schools from the teachers' perspective. The authors access teachers' professional craft knowledge and facilitate their own articulation of the ordinary teaching which they do routinely and spontaneously. The emphasis is on investigating "good teaching" and identifying how an understanding of teaching skills is particularly important for, and applicable to, the pre-service and in-service training of teachers, effective curriculum innovation, and teacher appraisal. Significant implications for policy and practice are identified.
