Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Makers of the 19th Century
The order of presentation is unscientific too. It is simply the order in which it was convenient to prepare the lectures, and, save in the case of the final trio, there is little organic connection between one subject and the next. I have erased such notes of time and place as could have no significance for the reader. But an utterance on Queen Victoria delivered but five days after her passing could not but bear the impres sion of that sad and solemn moment. And a discourse on james Martineau delivered from the pulpit and in the church which were erected for his ministry could not be stripped of local reference. He was the incumbent of Hope Street Church, Liverpool, from 1849 to 1857. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
