Published in 1864, this is a collection of letters written to and published by the New Orleans Era newspaper during the civil war. Known as the "MacPherson Letters" they were written by an unknown author at the time, who took the name James B. MacPherson. Then at one point, wanting to discontinue writing the letters, the author decide to write about his own death.
