Publisher's Synopsis
When fifteen-year-old Lindy Simpson-a free spirit, track star, and belle of the block-is attacked late one evening near her home in the summer of 1989, the Baton Rouge neighborhood best known for cookouts on sweltering summer afternoons, pots of spicy crawfish, and fervent football fandom is rocked by a violent crime.
The suspicions are numerous and the mysteries concealed behind each locked door start to come to light in this small-town setting. Even our narrator, a young adolescent lad who lives across the street, is suspected. We start to piece together the night of Lindy's attack and its horrible cascading effects on the formerly beautiful village via his eyes, still troubled by loss and guilt many years later.
