The preceding statement holds good for bituminous coal, anthra cite, and coke, burned at ordinary and high rates of combustion! For low rates of combustion such as are frequently used in house heating furnaces the process of combustion in the fuel bed is some what more complete and the gases rising from the fuel bed contain smaller percentages of combustible gases.
