"Look Ahead" is a four-level series for upper secondary and young adult learners of English, taking them from beginning level to First Certificate preparation. The Longman classroom series is the institutional version of this multimedia project, created by a consortium consisting of: BBC English, British Council, Longman ELT, Cambridge Examinations (UCLES), with the cooperation of the Council of Europe.;The course is designed to be a good, representative example of modern ELT methodology, without being excessively radical or challenging for the busy teacher - it is suitable for native and non-native speaking teachers.;The course components consist of a student's book, workbook, teacher's book, classroom cassettes, video cassettes part A and part B, workbook cassette.;Level 1 covers beginners/false beginners - elementary and Level 2 covers pre-intermediate level.;The course has a multi-syllabus approach integrating grammer, vocabulary, functions, phonology and skills. It is linked to the UCLES KET (after level 2) and PET (after level 3) examinations.;There is a clear grammatical focus, signposted throughout the units, with unit summaries and a grammar reference at the back. Throughout the four levels there is a speechwork syllabus with a key wordlist recorded on the workbook cassette. There is regular cross-cultural focus in "comparing cultures" sections. The videos are a resource which support the classroom course, offering motivational features for learners. They contain fictional and real people in British and American settings. American English is built in throughout and the "English Around You" cartoons, focus on key communicative phrases. The teacher's book has teacher development and language awareness pages.
