English summary: That at all times men have not only had intellect, but also emotions must be considered a certain fact. The bourgeois gender discourse that developed in the 19th century, and which has dominated cultural Modernism ever since, has prevented a straight forward discussion of forms and figuration of emotional masculinity and male emotions to this day by, in a polarizing manner, equating masculinity with rationality and femininity with emotions. The contributors to this volume work against a dichotomist coding of gender whose stereotyped results are still in effect today, by addressing the crucial significance of emotions for the construction of masculinity in literature and culture at very different periods of time. In doing so, the papers analyze the correlation between literary masculinities and emotions both in the context of and based on the results of current interdisciplinary research on masculinity and emotion. German description: Dass Manner zu allen Zeiten nicht nur Verstand, sondern auch Gefuhle haben, ist an sich betrachtet eine schlichte Tatsache. Der die kulturelle Moderne dominierende burgerliche Geschlechterdiskurs, wie er sich im 19. Jahrhundert formiert hat, behindert jedoch bis heute eine selbstverstandliche Auseinandersetzung mit den Formen und Figurationen emotionaler Mannlichkeit und mit mannlichen Emotionen, indem er polarisierend Mannlichkeit mit Rationalitat und Weiblichkeit mit Emotionalitat konnotiert. Die Beitrage des Bandes arbeiten einer dichotomisierenden Codierung von Geschlecht, deren stereotypisierte Ableger auch gegenwartig noch wirksam sind, entgegen, indem sie der zentralen Bedeutung von Gefuhlen fur die Konstitution von Mannlichkeiten in der Literatur und Kultur ganz unterschiedlicher Epochen nachgehen. Dabei analysieren sie das Verhaltnis von literarischen Mannlichkeiten und Emotionen kontextbezogen und an den Ergebnissen der aktuellen interdisziplinaren Mannlichkeits- und Emotionsforschung orientiert.
