Publisher's Synopsis

Drawing upon research in both countries, this work determines to what extent community members in the two locations exhibit the same usage and variation in their native Spanish including migration as a new sociolinguistic variable. It examines phonological, morphological and lexical variation as well as the influence of English in Spanish in the informants' language. The selection of two communities, and the inclusion of the sociolinguistic independent variable migration provide a departure from the typical focus of sociolinguistic research.
