Publisher's Synopsis
I was privileged to grow up in three different countries - Spain, England, and France - which meant living three different cultures, speaking three languages, at an early age. This collection of poems is written mainly in English, my most constant language, and includes some poems originally written in Spanish and French, with my translations into English. When translating poetry, one needs to write a different poem, at best, while maintaining the essence, taste, and, if possible, similar rhythm of the original. Here, in part, is my attempt to do this. Since I began to write poems as a teenager - who didn't? I have torn up most of them, threw others away, and kept some that survived the passing of time, and appear here. I once read that the only true difference between a poet and a person who is not a poet, is the fact that the poet kept on writing poetry. Here are the poems I didn't throw away, kept throughout the years, perhaps liked the most, were more important than the others, and the poems I have most recently written, all together in one book. I hope they touch somewhere deep in the soul of all poetry lovers - those who recognize themselves as such, and those who don't, yet also are.
